Slinky Sock

Yarn: MC - 1 hank Mango Moon Silk or Rayon
CC - 400 yards fingering weight kid mohair

Needles: US 10.5 24" circular needle
Note: the piece is knit flat, but you will be
working from both ends of the needle,
so a circular needle is necessary.

darning needle

Finished Size: approx. 18" x 55"

Gauge: 2.5 sts per inch

Measure across your back from wrist to wrist, _______ inches. This is your finished length. 400 yards of mohair will make up to about a 65” shrug. If you are making this as a surprise gift a good way to estimate the size is to take their height and subtract 10 inches. The sample in the photo is 50” worn by a 5 foot (60”) tall model.

When you reach the MC rows the yarn is on the wrong end of the needle. When this happens slide the stitches to the other end of the needle so you start knitting on the side that the MC is on. You shouldn’t cut the yarn.

With MC Cast-on 50sts
Row 1 – MC purl
Row 2-4 – CC knit
Row 5 – MC knit
Row 6 – CC purl
Row 7-8 – CC knit
Repeat 8 rows for pattern until it reaches the length you measured ending with a MC row.
Bind off with MC.

Weave in ends.

Fold lengthwise with right sides together. Using CC backstitch 16” from each end to create sleeves.
